Giving.  It is something that transcends religion, politics, and national boundaries…

Americans have much on their hands with recent natural disasters, but Americans also reach out to every corner of the world to show compassion.  All nations calling themselves great will reach out whenever the call comes.

In Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, Ebenezer Scrooge’s statement of “You were always a good man of business Jacob“, prompts Marley’s ghost to respond “Mankind was my business. The common welfare was my business; charity, mercy, forbearance, and benevolence, were, all, my business. The dealings of my trade were but a drop of water in the comprehensive ocean of my business!

Christmas is the time we look most to use the examples of a child, born in the lowest of places, wrapped in swaddling clothing to understand the importance of giving to those we find less fortunate or in great need.
