Editorial Review:

Amazon.com Review:
Dennis Lehane won a Shamus Award for A Drink Before the War, his first book about working-class Boston detectives Patrick Kenzie and Angie Gennaro. His second in the series, Darkness, Take My Hand, got the kind of high octane reviews that careers are made of. Now Lehane not only survives the dreaded third-book curse, he beats it to death with a stick. Sacred is a dark and dangerous updating of Raymond Chandler's The Big Sleep, as dying billionaire Trevor Stone hires Kenzie and Gennaro to find his daughter, Desiree. Patrick's mentor, a wonderfully devious detective named Jay Becker, has already disappeared in St. Petersburg, Florida, while working the case, so the two head there to pick up a trail. Desiree, of course, is nothing like the sweet and simple beauty described by her father, and even Chandler would have been amazed by the plot twists that Lehane manages to keep coming.

Product Description:

The master of the new noir, Dennis Lehane brilliantly interweaves beauty and violence, integrity and evil in this thrilling, powerfully resonant novel.

A beautiful, grief-stricken woman has vanished without a trace. So has the detective hired to find her. And a lot of money. Enter saavy, tough-nosed private investigators Patrick Kenzie and Angela Gennaro. Rooted in the no-nonsense streets of Boston's blue-collar Dorchester, they've seen it all—and survived. But this case leads them into unexpected territory where nothing is sacred—a land of lies and corruption where trusting anyone could get them killed . . . where taking any step could be their last.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Another Kenzie / Gennaro thriller
I am completely in love with Dennis Lehane's writing, so I may be a tad biased... but I LOVE this book. It's just another piece in the Kenzie / Gennaro series, and it's right on par with the rest. Action packed, well written, you won't be able to put it down. I REALLY hope Lehane writes more books about this pair. Fantastic reading. This series along with Mystic River has made Lehane my favorite author.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - twists and turns
This is the 3rd in the Kenzie-Gennaro series and the best so far. If you live in Greater Boston these books are a hoot because of his constant mention to Boston and New England locations. The plot in this novel will keep you on your toes and is a hard story to put down. Am looking forward to reading his next in the series Gone Baby Gone.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - My favorite of the series
Dennis Lehane can write a gritty, twisted thriller like no other.

This story starts with a father looking for his missing daughter and then hiring this relentless investigative duo to find her. From Boston to Florida and back, you are in for a crazy ride full of mind-blowing twists and shockers--evil, lies, and disturbing corruption--along the way. It will keep you turning pages and staying up all night to find out what happens next and of course, nothing is ever as it seems.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Really bad
I wanted to like this book. I really did. Mr. Lehane has a good reputation and I have enjoyed the two movies I have seen made from his novels. In the end, though, I just didn't like this novel.

Sacred is the third book I have read in Lehane's private eye series featuring Patrick Kenzie and Angela Gennaro. Unfortunately, it will also be the last.

The novel opens with an improbable situation and then skips along to several unbelievable characters and developments, from the convicted ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - You can't go wrong with Lehane
Dennis Lehane is one of the most consistently entertaining mystery writers around. Sacred features private investigators Patrick Kenzie and his partner Angie Gennaro. An interesting plot with more than its share of twists will keep you turning the pages. It's important to keep in mind the advice from Kenzie and Gennaro: everyone is a suspect and don't trust anyone. Nothing is really what it seems. Lehane masterfully unfolds a tale of greed, lies, evil and deceipt. As usual, a winner from Lehane, a fantastic ... Read More
