I bought this toy for my son after seeing the feature film with him. I remember the original toy line fondly, but these new toys leave something to be desired. Kind of cheap plastic feel....and after having it less than three months, already shows some chipping. But I guess that is large in part to my kid playing with it all of the time, so that's good.
The transformation itself is pretty cool, it actually took me a while to change it back and forth a few times. The joints, however, seem to be quite loose after playing with it for a while. i wish there were a way to tighten them with a screwdriver.
overall, I gave it three stars, mostly due to the construction being a bit on the bad side, but my son loves this toy, so I guess thats all that really matters.

The color should have been more accurate. In the movie he's a grey f22, not brown. There's a little flap that hides his face. That flap should have been a little bigger, because in airplane mode you can still see his head. I end up having to turn his head a full 180 to hide it. The cannons work poorly. In the movie, only one of Stascream's hands turn into a missle launcher. For that reason Hasbro should have giving him regular robot arms, which also woud have been easier to conceal in airplane mode and made a missle launcher to attach to his arm. Like they did for '08 camero bumble bee. The legs are done great, they should have used that same accuracy to make the arms. For all the transformers the little wholes that the parts snap into should have been a little deeper, because the pieces snap off too easily.

When I was a kid I wanted a transformer that turned into a jet. Now I have my wish. I found Starscream fun to play with, though the transformation is definitely a bit complex for smaller children. His bulky construction looks static, but is actually very posable in robot form. The arms and legs have a pretty good range of movement, though he is not going to win any dance competitions. The small fins on either side of the head do have a tendency to pop off during transformation, but the ball-and-socket joint they are on makes them easy to reattach, just like the old Beast Wars figures. I find that if they pop off it's easier to just reattach them after I've finished transforming the figure. Speaking of transforming, the instructions Starscream comes with are pretty unhelpful, consisting only of pictures with no text, and not very good pictures at that. It took me a while to figure out how to change it back and forth, and it would probably be downright mysterious for a six year old. However, once I figured it out, it was not too difficult, though it did take a minute. Overall, I would recommend this toy for older kids who won't be frustrated by the transformation or lose the missles (because as every parent knows, they WILL lose the missles.) or for grown-ups who are kids at heart, like myself.

I think any Transformers now days are a little on the flimsy side. I have transformed Starscream only twice because I don't want to risk having it break, although I am VERY careful with it. I don't know how kids have the patience to go through all the steps to get it transformed (there's a big diagram that comes with it), but once there, it's pretty cool to look at and that's how it will stay on my desk until I'm brave enough to transform him back.

Starscream was my favorite Decepticon from the originals and I bought both him and Ironhide at the same time. Starscream is more fun and easier to trasform. His missiles are on a hair trigger, and I would recommend taking them out during transition or else you will shoot yourself several times. The directions on both Ironhide and Starscream are lacking and after several reviews on other transformers I have read, it seems to be standard. After several transformations, they become easier, and I suspect the same is true for all the transformers. Definitely not a toy for 5-12 year olds I believe due to the complex nature of changing from robot to disguse and back, but for us dorks who loved them as childern, they are outstanding, and I would strongly recommend them.
