WEBKINZ - Polar Bear

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Webkinz stuffed is great-the website is horrible
The learning process and everything that is involved with the webkinz plush is great. The problem is their website-we have a bran new top of the line computer less than 3 months old. It doesn't matter- they still have a lot of technical issues with the website. The website is not working approximately 25% of the time.
When you compromise with your children (ex) clean up your room and you can have 1/2 hour online with webkinz- the child goes on the website and doesn't work. After this happens about 3-4 times the child becomes uninterested.
You just spent 12.95 and have an expensive not worth 12.95 plush.
When the website does work, it is a great tool for parents.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - So Cool!!
I have a Golden Retriever, and a Polar Bear. The Polar bear is named Icy. When you buy this, the Webkinz comes with a secret code that let's you go on their website, (www.webkinz.com) and have a vitural pet!!!!!!!!!! It is very good if you don't have a pet. (I have 6 real pets though!) You get kinzcash, which is virtual money on Webkinz World, so you can buy him or her clothes, furnature, rooms for him or her, ect. Plus, that will make his happiness meter go up!! Yay. If she get's sick, bring her to Dr. Quack. Adopting a new Webkinz? Ms. Birdy is the name. Want to buy rare Webkinz things? Ask Arte. Hope this review helps!!

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - The Stuffed Animal that Comes with Screen Time
Webkinz stuffed animals come with a code that allows the user to register the "pet" on a website. Your child can name the pet, decide it's gender, and then log on to play with it. So, you are not just buying the stuffed animal, you are also buying access to a website that gives you virtual money to buy pet supplies and virtual locations in which you can feed, groom, and entertain your pet. I am assuming while you do this the "real" stuffed animal sits alone in another room. The virtual animal has a meter that lets you know how happy and well-fed it is. If you neglect it, it will suffer (or at least become less happy).

I suppose some could argue this is a good way to teach children about the responsibility of pets or to let them feel as if they have a real pet (but without the mess).

Consumers who object to excess use of video games and tv, probably should opt for a traditional stuffed animal that does not come with a virtual counterpart that requires the use of a computer.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - I Love Webkinz
I happen to love Webkinz. There are a lot of technical problems but NOT on Webkinz side. It depends on the type of computer you have. You must have a computer that can handle Java Script (most can but some older computer can't comprehend it). Sometimes if you are trying to access the sit through AOL you may not be able because AOL has a hard time handling the Java Script as well. I normally access it through Internet Explorer and have no trouble at all.

The site is a lot of fun. There are numerous games ranging from puzzles to cards to basbeall. There's secret recipes that children can make using there stove. Children get to express themselves by decorating their room for the pet. You can go shopping and go hunting for gems. There is so much to do and it never gets old.

I highly suggest buything this for someone who knows how to use the computer. I would not suggest this gift to a 5 year old but someone around the ages of 9-13 because the site is slightly hard to navigate (you get used to it) and the games are challenging.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Overall, a hit!
We got my son a couple Webkinz, frog and polar bear, for his 8th birthday last week.
After a couple of days we noticed the seam on the frog has come apart about one inch. My son has barely handled the frog, and never has he thrown it nor played with it roughly.
Initially, we had technical problems with the website. When we tried to enter "My Room," the screen read "loading" but nothing happened no matter how long we sat there and waited. We have a three-year-old Dell computer with Java Script. And, I had read reviews on other websites where people have experienced the same difficulty.
We had tried to call the technical assitance phone number. The first time it just rang numerous times until it turned into a busy signal. The following tries led to several rings, followed by lots of button pressing, only to hear an automated voice instructing one to send a detailed message through the website. When we tried that option, you are given a warning that any information supplied (e.g. your email address) becomes the property of Webkinz to use it in any manner in which they desire.
Within the last few days, we have used the website about four times and have encountered no difficulties. My sons, ages 4, 8 and 9, can play the games independently, and find it a lot of fun.
I'll be sewing up the seam on the frog and I bought my other children their own Webkinz for Valentine's Day. Keep in mind that the Webkinz website is available for one year, and then a fee is charged to continue membership.

As other reviews indicate, the stuffing in many of these pets is lacking, but the kids don't seem to mind. When the website is functioning smoothly, we are very pleased with the purchase.
