I'm writing my son's comments here. But first I'll mention that he is 11 yrs old and is a very skilled Lego engineer. Legos and Bionicles are his favorite toys. He can create amazing inventions with both of these sets including joints and connections I never would have thought of.
His comments:
"This set is very fragile. The slightest touch shatters the majority of it. It's only for the most skilled and careful Lego builders, but builders who enjoy collections instead of playing with creations. This set is nice to look at, but you can't play with it at all."
Dad's comments again:
This will be the first item I've ever returned to Amazon. More importantly though, this is the first Lego item I've ever purchased that didn't bring 100% joy to my son. My wife and I have always marveled at his concentration and his skills. He builds the sets according to the directions, then he elaborates on them to build even more imaginative creations. It's truly inspiring to see a "toy" like Lego challenge him and motivate him to go further with the next creation. I really thought this set would be a reward for him, now that he's older, more responsible, and fully capable of appreciating and building a set like this. But after watching him work though his frustrations, I realized that this fancier set was analogous to an expensive car for a middle aged guy with a hairpiece. That's not what I wanted for my son.

At first I was skeptical to build this guy, because it is the biggest lego set I've built to date (1000+ Peices). It is pretty intimidating when you open the box and see every single piece, but with this set I just happened to find the peice I was looking for when I needed it during construction, I guess that is part of the brilliance of the Lego brand.
This model is huge and the head is very flimsy, if it wasn't for this one rubber band that Lego included, the head would be falling apart all over the place, so kudos to Lego for that rubber band, that saved this set for me.
Something else that should be kept in mind is that this set is not a toy, there are no mini-figs, its pretty much strictly for collectors and people that enjoy building Lego sets and don't have a problem putting them aside, any attempt to play with this thing it will break due to it's sheer size, detail level and flimsiness.
Other than that, you can't be the price of [...] bucks. That is the reason I purchased this set and was blown away by the size and detail level of the model, it looks like something you would spend [...] dollars on, So I am incredibly happy with it. Love it!

The LEGO Imperial All Terrain Scout Transport, first unveiled in Episode VI, is a BIG Lego model. The point of getting it was 1) revisiting those great Star Wars adventures, and 2) having a family activity in building it.
It's Star Wars! The bigger these models are, the more 'real" they seem. And this walker has over 1,000 pieces and stands over 16 inches tall. It's not a toy to be played with. It is a model to be displayed. Thus, it is a "revisiting" of the original Star Wars.
There are some models with a thousand pieces that seem to build themselves, it is so easy. This particular model took a number of hours. The instructions come in two books, a 74 page and a 54 page set of instructions (the legs, and the body). It is a great 2 person project, because one person can complete one leg while the other is working on the base of the body, and then you can switch jobs. I'd say there is 4-5 hours here.
It is a nice model, a bit on the wobbly side, but that's because it is heavy. It looks like a AT-ST, and not just like a Lego model of one. This is a good model to add to your Star Wars collection.

Fantastic set from Lego. Great for kids or any age collector!!! Superb detail and a must have for Star Wars buffs.

My son loves playing with the Lego Star Wars sets but this one was a disappointment. He enjoyed assembling it and it is a fine looking piece but it does not stand up by itself and the top is easily disconnected. It's really only for display so be forewarned. Also comes with no Star Wars figures unlike many of the others. A rare Lego disappointment.
