I got this for my 40 year-old husband. He loved legos as a kid. This is the next phase for him I guess. This is definitly a more grown-up toy or at least for a computer smart person. If your husband or boy friend or son is an engineer or future engineer then this is the gift for him. For an Adult or older teen or a very smart tween.

Instructions were good and easy to follow. building the models and programming was easy. robot did what it was supposed to do. the "brain" does have a limited memory. simple programs are good. memory does not allow complex programming. great learning tool.

I like this kit for a beginner's kit in robotics. It is much sturdier than others I have looked at. We have bought a couple of others and they have broken too quickly. I just wish MORE came in the kit. You don't get a lot for 250.00. It was definitely a majoy investment. Now we are looking for ways for our son to make alittle extra money snow plowing or mowing to buy more parts.

In the week following Christmas, my ten-year-old spent three days strait working on his automation projects. I had to interrupt to tell him to brush teeth and bath, and to play outside with his new skateboard and old friends. He's totally engrossed, three weeks still after Christmas. The toy far exceeded my expectations. My only complaint is that my son and I compete for the laptop because the project manuals are totally online. He needs his own workstation which is neither an investment that I'm prepared to front nor a tool that is my son mature enough to use independently.

The Lego Mindstorms NXT exceeded my expectations. Although my grandsons are ages 7 and 9, they have no problem building and programming robots. It's just complex and involved enough that it keeps them interested without being too hard to comprehend.
