Leapster L-MAX SW Game: Sponge Bob(Lic.)

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Just From Observing My Daughter....
She seems to absolutely love this cartridge. She received for her birthday on 10/21, and has not used any other cartridge since! we have to kick her out of the bathroom because she brings it in there with her also!!!! As for the educational value I couldn't answer, but it has held her attention.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Go SpongeBob!
Daughter has this.

Daughter is 4.

Daughter loves this.

Daughter plays with it all the time.

Daughter becomes distraught when it goes missing in the sofa cushions or when her brother steals it.

I love that it keeps Daughter busy for hours. :)

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Easy enough for preschool, but enough to last into elementary school
We got this for our son when he was 4 and it has been a favorite ever since. There were several games that he could pick up and do immediately on his own (using the lower levels). One game, the phonics game, he wasn't able to do without some help, but it gave us a chance to work on it together. Now that he's 5 1/2, he is able to do the phonics game on his own. It's nice to see how he's grown into the game. I think we still have a couple more years left with this game, as he doesn't regularly play the games on the harder levels.

Another nice feature is that for every game that your child completes, he/she gets to collect a drop of a secret potion that they can later use to help Sponge Bob create a secret recipe. Our son LOVES collecting drops of the secret potion--he feels very rewarded when he gets a drop, and he regularly updates us with how many drops he has of each color. It's a nice little incentive that ties the multiple games together into a fun goal.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Fun and educational!
My daughter was 4 1/2 when she got this. She couldn't set it down for days!! It teaches skills such as counting money, letter sounds and shapes. Throughout the game you collect different ingredients that you can use to make a secret Krabby Patty sauce, then Patrick tries your sauce and something happens to him. According to my kids, it's always something absolutely hilarious! One day I went online to find out the different combinations of ingredients and what they would do to Patrick. I came across a site for the regular (cheaper!) version of this game - not the L-Max "charge a few extra bucks for the exact same thing" game. On the site, I saw that they had a musical section for the older version. My daughter and I scoured her game to find it to no avail. Anyway, one day I finally let her play her Leapster on TV and we found the musical section! This is a HUGE letdown! She rarely ever gets to play her Leapster on TV, yet she adores the music part of the game. I really don't see why the good Leapster people would do such a thing. Had I known this sooner, I would have exchanged her Spongebob game for the older version -- and had a few extra dollars to boot!

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Not the best game out there...
If you have diehard spongebob fans in your house, be sure to grab this game. It is a lot of fun for the games sake and it teaches how to count change, some math and introductory word formation. However, if Spongebob gets on your nerves when he's on television, it's worse with this game! I think of all the games we have, this one is the least challenging for my five-year-old. The Batman game provides more of a challenge and it seems to be more fun for him. This game is just okay, and isn't played as much as I thought it would be. My five-year-old loves Spongebob, but this game just isn't as much fun as some of the others, especially Letters on the Loose, Batman, Spiderman (all spelling and word formation, fantastic game!), and Number Raiders.
