Leapster L-MAX Hardware (TV Feature)

I still cannot believe what an amazingly horrible experience I had with this company's customer service. We bought the Lmax for our son from another retailer. He used it for about 10 minutes and was having a great time - until we plugged it into the TV to play on the big screen. The cable fit into the port on the game so loosely that any movement caused it to fall out. Needless to say, it was nearly impossible to use in that mode. We took it back to get another but they were (and still are) sold out, so I called LeapFrog customer service to try to get another. That's when the fun began.
First, I was told that the system was down and that someone would call me back within 24 hours. When I didn't hear back, I called again and was told the same story. Days later, still no call from Leap Frog. So I decided to email customer suport. I never got a response to this day. A week after my original call, Leap Frog finally contacted me - but I couldn't get to the phone. No more than two minutes later I called back - only to get a recording that the company was closed and to call again another day. Two days later I called and got the exact same runaround - leave your information and someone will get back to you. After asking for a supervisor, I discovered that the "answering service" that Leap Frog uses can't help with the Lmax, and they can't transfer me to anyone who CAN help me. Alll they can do is take messages.
Finally today I got a call from an actual "Lmax support" person. I was told that I should just use the game without moving it. Are you kidding me?????? I was told that Leap Frog is aware of the problem with the TV cable and customer service is waiting for a response from headquarters about what to tell people. I was also told that, in the mean time, Leap Frog is still producing and selling this product knowing that it is not working properly. This is one of the absolute worst customer service experiences that I have ever had. I had planned on just eventually getting another, but the fact that they continue to sell toys that they KNOW don't work is disgusting to me. It's a shame, because the games seem really wonderful and my son did have a great time with it.....for 10 minutes anyway.

I bought this toy directly from the Leapfrog site for my both my son and daughter as Christmas gifts. Within a week of normal, sporadic use, my son's leapster didn't work-it wouldn't turn on. I didn't want my son to be without it for as long as a repair or replacement from the company might take, so I planned to return it to the company, and set out today to purchase a new one for my son.
I bought one from Target, brought it home, and put batteries in it. It didn't work. After an entire afternoon of searching, I found another one at a Walmart. This time I put the batteries in it right in the parking lot-and you guessed it, it didn't work.
So, after purchasing three that didn't work, I don't know if I would buy another one-it seems like it could be a waste of money to me. Maybe it's a fluke, but I'm really very surprised and disappointed that Leapfrog would put out a product this iffy. And my five-year-old son is extremely disappointed because now his big Christmas gift is gone.
Just wanted to warn other parents, you may want to look at something else comparable for your kids.

The touch screen's response is very slow. Somtimes my son has to click with stylus too hard. So he started using his finger to select big buttons. The drawing/coloring games don't make fine details.
When connected to TV we had problems since the cable don't connect to the unit tight.Called customer service on it. Not a good customer service representative. She argued with me that if the unit works standalone then no issues and they don't gurantee working with TV. I told her that the main reason we bought LMAX is to connect to the TV otherwise we could have bought regular Leapster(not L-max). If the child has to hold to the pin so tight to make the picture to come on the TV , then it is not working. Finally she agreed to send in a replacment if I send in the original. But I am afraid that they will send in a refurbished one back. Also it looses charge quickly if you connect to TV.

This toy is fantastic. My son has an x box 360 and a Wii but he still picks up his L Max and uses it. It grabs his attention.
