I couldn't review this item since it wasn't up long enough for me to buy it. In the cart went back to buy and the price jumps 60%. WOW what cutomer service! This isn't the first time I have had Amazon jump the price just to make a buck.

I have a German Shepherd dog and I purchased this Dremel Minimite to grind his nails. Works very well once the dog was used to it; he didn't want to get near it at first. I use the fine sanding band on high speed on the nails as I think the coarse bands would be too much. I've also found many other uses for the Dremel around the house so it's definitely handy. If you have a specific need, I'd recommend purchasing and I'm sure you'll find other uses also. The rechargeable battery is great, which is why I purchased this over the products marketed for grinding pets' nails. For a few bucks more, The Minimite is worth not having to replace batteries that you have to purchase separately.

The 2-speed feature of the Dremel 750-02 Minimite 13,000 RPM is great. I gave this product 5 stars for: quality, effectiveness and ease of use.
Quality: This product fits really well in my hand and it feels well made. I have been using it (since September 2008) and even though it's made of plastic nothing has broken or fail to work.
Effectiveness: The high speed (10000 rpm) is for work around the house and the low speed (5000 rpm) is for my 85-lb dog (see TIPS for using this product on your pet's nails below). He has thick nails but I use the low speed because the high speed can heat up his nails. The recharging feature is great because the unit uses a lot of power and I hate to keep replacing the batteries (with the cordless ones that uses batteries).
Ease of use: Changing the attachment may be tricky if you have not done so - just follow the instructions on how to do it. After you get a hang of it, it's not so hard. Charging the battery and putting it back on the unit was straight forward.
TIPS on using this on your pet's nails:
- Turn the device on low (5000 rpm) while you're doing something fun with your pet (scratching his back, playing with a toy, etc,). Use one hand to play with the dog and use your other hand to hold the device. Keep doing this until your dog is not nervous when you turn the device on.
- After your dog is not alarmed by the device when you turn it on, then slowly introduce it to your dog by touching the bottom end of the vibrating device to your dogs leg. Keep doing this (while playing with your dog) until he seems at ease.
- Then tell your dog to lay down and stay (assuming he knows these commands) and at low speed using the sanding drum, hold his paw with one hand and slowly sand down the first nail.
For techniques on how to trim the nails (especially not to go to deep to avoid the nerve), I would google this topic if you don't know how to do it.

I bought this low power, inexpensive Dremel specifically to trim my toenails. It works in conjunction with the half inch sanding bands. I was surprised it actually does the job. My nails are too tough to trim using the usual cutters. Sometimes even wire cutters won't work without splitting my nails. Due to nail fungus problems, they are very thick and tough. You have to pay attention to the direction of rotation and hold the tool the right way to avoid going into the nail. Also have to avoid abrading the skin around the nails.

I purchased this to keep my GSD's "talons" in check. I was afraid she would not allow me to do this, but has not shown her usual level of tenacity in refusing to comply as I expected. I have only used it about 5 times (we are doing her nails with the small increment approach to get her acclimated) and I still lay on her and put her head on the back on my shoulder, but the wiggling & whining has all but ceased already. She is still not thrilled with it, but I think the vibration bothers her more than anything. I think after I become more confident in using the product, all will be well on doggy spa day! I couldn't be more pleased. I chose this model because it seemed a great deal for what I wanted as well as a decent price and was on free shipping. The reviews I read for other products were not encouraging especially for large dogs, so I am VERY pleased with this choice as it was only a couple of dollars more and seems to have a lot of power and holds a charge well. I have not recharged it once yet and it is still working fine.
