Oh how I LOVE Clue! When I was growing up, and voraciously reading all the (sadly out-of-print) Trixie Belden books, Clue was my favorite game. I was going to be a PI when I grew up... (I have since learned that it's not as glamorous as I thought, and given up on that career goal.)
This game teaches deductive reasoning, a life-skill that seems underrated and undertaught. Maybe you don't want to be a PI, but outthinking the next guy will get you through life more often than it won't.

Clue is a wonderful game to get creative minds going. It teaches children how to solve a problem with the process of elimination. There are small pieces included, though, that may be lost. These pieces may also be found by small children and cause a choking hazard. Be sure to put this game up where small hands cannot reach it. Other than that, this is a great learning tool for children.

I loved Clue as a girl. I love it still. And my 8 year old loved it too. It's pretty challenging for him, but not too much to handle. Nothing wrong with that. He doesn't want to play as frequently as I do, though!

After the huge pile of boxes under the tree had been opened yesterday, this one was the hands-down hit with my daughter. We played round after round after Christmas dinner was finished, remembering how much fun we had playing Clue when we were kids. Nothing about the game has changed in the last thirty years, except maybe Mrs. Peacock's hairstyle on the box cover. Older kids (9+ or so) can play with adults with no serious disadvantage. I rated the educational value as 5 stars because the game is based on deductive reasoning; kids learn to test a hypothesis with the suggestion/alibi format. This is a classic that belongs in your game closet, pronto.

What Do You Mean You've Never Played???
If you could buy only one game for your game shelf, this would be the one to buy. Clue is, deservedly, a classic. One can appreciate the game on so many different levels, and it is challenging enough for adults, and fun enough for(the slightly older) kids. The perfect family game. Hasbro and USAopoly have recently released "Simpsons CLUE", "Alfred Hitchcock CLUE", "Dungeons and Dragons CLUE" etc.,and they are just as wonderful as the original game -- with the added bonus of being "collectable".
I am a member of several CLUE clubs and internet discussion lists (on YahooGroups), and the charm never lags. Ever.
