The Christmas Box

This was a wonderful book, bought as a gift for a loved one. I already have my own copy. It was in great condition and arrived promptly--as does everything coming directly from Amazon.com.

A very extraordinary book that was not intended to be published. It was written, supposed to be as an expression of his love for her daughters. It starts casually, continues with a gentle build up, and right at the last few chapters, slams you with a hammer in the very center of your heart. A classic tale, with a story that reminds us what is really important in life. Not just a Christmas tale, it is also a wonderful gift to all fathers on Father's Day.
The story revolves around a struggling family of three. Living in a cramped one-bedroom apartment, their lives changed when they replied upon a unique ad by a devout widow to move in to her spacious home in exchange of some elderly care. The father discovered a magical box that used to contain a Bible. It was this very box that gave him the answer to Mary's (the elderly widow woman) all important question. Eventually, Mary's parting gift is something that he knows he will treasure forever.
This edition is a collector's delight. Hardbound. The cover is simple, decked with just a single star and an ornate frame. The pages are made of thick paper with uneven pages which I love to thumb about.

A man learns how to appreciate and love his family through the help of Mary, the lady they stay with. It's a short, fun read, but the edition I read had a lot of editing errors. Also the narration is in first person, but later it would change to first-person omniscient? Not very readable...really annoying. It feels like this was a first draft and was printed without any editing...maybe the later editions are a little more cohesive.
But overall, the idea is within the Christmas and Holiday spirit and for that it's worth a read.

I received a copy of this book years ago and loved it. I bought this one to give as a Christmas gift to my boss. She loved it as well, and has already passed it on for other friends to read. It's a wonderful story, that really has lines on a couple different levels. On one, you see the importance of family, and priorities. On another, the true meaning of Christmas, Jesus Christ, is given. I definitely recommend this book - for yourself, and as a gift!

The Christmas Box is one of the most beautiful stories I have had the pleasure to read. It is about taking the time to smell the roses. As a parent, you can't help being busy and not taking enough time to watch our children grow. This book makes you rethink your priorities. It is written which such depth and simplicity that it is quite a joy to read not only throughout the holidays, but a story worth remembering year round.
