My teenage son got the spinning top and starter tool for Christmas last year. This year, he asked for this perpetuator. This is a great gift for older kids that are into science or optical illusions. Beware, though, that it is difficult to master the technique to get this top spinning. It can take a really long time -- it may be frustrating for younger kids.
